"A Merry Heart"

Proverbs 17:22
“A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”

Many proverbs share a blessing and a warning. Something we should do and not do. A good thing and a bad thing. So, it is a blessing to others to be merry. It heals. It is a drag to be down hearted, to everybody. We cannot always be merry, but certainly more often. We cannot always avoid a broken spirit, but we can bounce back sooner. Think of it this way, merriness is like refreshing much needed rain. A broken spirit is like a never ending drought. A broken spirit is like a nasty tasting medicine. It leaves a bad after taste. Proverbs are both. Sometimes a convicting medication, sometimes a blessed tonic. What do you need? What do you give? Hopefully you give what you enjoy more. Hopefully you get more of what blesses you best.

Working on this with you,

Pastor Fred
