"Comfort From Sorrow"

"Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once more. " Psalm 71:20-21

I have recently gone through (still going through) a time of sorrow because of the passing of my Dad. This passage and in fact the whole of Psalm 71 has helped me put things into perspective. I have run the gambit of emotions from anger to bitterness to depths if despair. Seeing my Mom's anguish has amplified this. Then I feel guilty for being angry and bitter.

The phrase "made me see" (KJV says "showed me") literally means allowing me to see or experience. He allows us to go through sorrow at times, and shows no condemnation for experiencing anger or bitterness. Rather He restores us, brings us up and comforts us.

I am hoping this comforts you as much as it has me.

Resting in Him
